Workspace Organization

12 May, 2026 9:00 PM
A green guy sits at a desk with a drawing tablet and monitor and gestures to his surroundings. There are hanging plants, pictures, and sparkles all around indicating this is the best workspace ever.

We spend a good chunk of time in one spot, drawing and writing our webcomics, so it makes a lot of sense to think about where that physically happens. Having a good space to make your webcomic is one of many things that can set you up for a healthy comic making habit, and if you haven’t thought about it before, we hope we can get you to start!

A lot of webcomic creators think about maintaining a place for our readers to connect with each other, and enjoy our comics and other art. This might be the comment section already built into your host, a Patreon or YouTube comment area where folks can look at your side content and chat, or a real-time chat space like Discord or Twitch. They’re all a little different and can attract all kinds of attention, good and bad, so we’re going to dive into what that looks like.

Commissions and Contract Work

3 March, 2026 9:00 PM
A character is looking at hands holding a Contract and cash money with interest and perhaps a little confusion?

One of the biggest questions about making comics is: what roads are available to make money off of making comics? One direction that many creators go is commissions or contract work. Contract work is specifically entering into some kind of agreement, where someone is paying you for your comic-related skills. It can be a simple illustration commission that you draw for someone in a day, or it can be something long-term that spans years and years.

Same Face Syndrome

17 February, 2026 9:00 PM
Two characters with the same face, but different hair are waving at each other and say "Same Face!"

So here’s our scenario: you’re making your webcomic, your readers are following to the best of their ability, but you’re hearing the feedback that they can’t tell some of the characters apart. This can be about how you draw them, the styles and coloring you’re using… OR there could be aspects of your writing that are affecting how they’re perceived. For whatever reason, people are getting confused. That's what we call Same Face Syndrome and we're here to help you diagnose and treat.

Comedy

23 September, 2025 9:00 PM
A basic character with a lizard on their head is laughing as they look at a three panel comic of blobs propped up on an easel.

There are a lot of approaches to comedy in comics, and I wanted to get an episode together about that. Humor is OFTEN rooted in all kinds of cultural trends: current events, age groups, time periods, and styles, so it can be hard when people ask about how to learn to write comedy to find a way to talk about it! But Bob and Delphina are going to do their best today to break down at least their experience and approaches, and hopefully that’ll help you too

Guy with sunglasses relaxes in a hammock with a fruity drink with a tiny umbrella. A computer sits nearby with a green checkmark on the screen and a speech bubble coming from it that says DONE.

Webcomics take so long, and while the perfectionist in our brains might tell us that we MUST do everything the long way, I think we've all pretty quickly learned that the easier you make the journey for yourself, the better. So this is going to be some quick lessons we've learned that changed our process and made life easier.

Webcomics are pretty great in our opinion, but they're not the only way to get a narrative story out into the world. Prose has been an option forever, but today, with so many new technologies, there are so many more options available! You could use anything from video games to podcasts to tell a story. But each option has its own pros and cons depending on what sort of project you're building, and today we're going to talk about them!

Patreon (with Bob!)

4 September, 2024 1:10 AM

Joining us today is Special Guest Bob, the creator of Into the Smoke! Join us as we talk all about Patreon!

Patreon is a site where you can get your readers to financially support you on a subscription model. You make an account on patreon.com, send your readers over to give you any amount per month they want, and you can post bonus content for your readers that’s either free to access OR behind a paid tier. It can be a really nice way to put a little money in your pocket, but it’s also really easy to overwhelm yourself, too, so we’re going to talk about what we’ve learned about navigating it!
